I've got several mechatronics projects underway. One in particular is building my own RepRap (see http://reprap.org/wiki/WebHome) with several modifications:
- To use parts (e.g., stepper motors/linear actuators, linear bearings) that I already have on hand.
- To optimize the thermoplastic extruder based on current DIY designs, plus additional engineering design and experiments, and the added machining capabilities I have available (Clausing 8520 vertical mill and South Bend 10K lathe).
- Possible changes to the embedded processors from Arduino to PIC and TI Piccolo, mainly because I have more experience with those (and have the development tools).
Note: Nophead has an extensive blog, well ahead of me on design and experimentation, which you will surely find useful if you're interested in RepRaps.
Stay tuned!
Mike
Where's the rap? That is RepRap...
